Hennie Kuiper

The Tour is unique. Children are unique. KiKa is unique. I wish you all the best with this fantastic challenge.

We are proud that Hennie Kuiper, former Olympic road race champion and world professional road race champion, has committed himself to chair the Tour for KiKa Supporting Committee.

Cycling fanatics of all generations know the impressive record of achievements of Hennie Kuiper. His present activities and dedication for other good causes make his chair position in the Supporting Committee exceptionally valuable. His support is a huge incentive for the recruitment of sponsors and publicity.

We would like to acknowledge and encourage the support of Hennie Kuiper and all the other members of the Supporting Committee and would like to use their relief to help cure and treat as many sick children as possible.

Hennie Kuiper rode the Tour de France 12 times, finishing second twice and won the stage to Alp d’Huez on two occasions (1977 and 1978). Furthermore he has an impressive palmares, Round of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, the Ronde van Lombardije and Milan – San Remo.

After his active cycling career Kuiper operated as a team-leader of a couple of pro- cycling teams. First for the German Stuttgart team (that later became Telekom) and thereafter the American Motorola team (with Lance Armstrong).

Laurens ten Dam

The first thought that popped into my head when I heard about the Tour for KiKa was: "That's impossible." Cycling all stages of the Tour de France in 3 weeks is raw, burdensome and an absolute challenge. However, the aim is fantastic and will encourage the participants to push it all the way to Paris! Support the Tour for KiKa!

We are proud that Laurens Ten Dam, one of Netherlands’ biggest cycling talents, supports the Tour for KiKa. We have been following Laurens for quite a while on Twitter and are aware of all the latest developments.

It is fantastic that we can add a promising race cyclist to the Tour for KiKa Support Committee. Therefore a short description of his sports career. Laurens was born on the 13th of November 1980 on the water (floating house) in Boterdiep, near the city of Groningen. Laurens had a sportive youth and after a short tennis and soccer career he finally chose road cycling. He is a climbing specialist and the expectations are that he will have chances of winning more future races.

He started in the rookie-group of Siem Lust, went to the Rabobank amateur team (managed by Nico Verhoven) via the Batavus amateur team and then made the transfer to join the Bankgiroloterij pro-team. Laurens has risen to world-class ranking among professional racing cyclists and has been racing in the Babygiro and the Tour de l’Avenir.

In 2008 he rode his first Tour de France, and ranked 22e (best Dutchman). He was selected for the 2008 Summer Olympics’ men’s road race in Peking and finished 65th. A year later, during his 2nd Tour de France, Laurens crashed in the ninth stage in the descent from the Tourmalet and couldn’t finish the Tour.

In between all his cycling activities Laurens managed to get a degree in Commercial Economics at the Johan Cruyff University in Amsterdam.
