The 1st week Tour for Kika

Friday 09 July 2010

You may have gotten the impression that this tour is about having a swim and jumping in fountains. However, those are little blips of distraction in a day which otherwise solely exists of cycling, eating, sleeping, and more cycling. After 1 week, we've conquered the longest stage and have left more than 1/3 of the distance behind us. How does that feel?
First of the buttocks (a sample of which can be viewed in a different news story) are hurting. The shoulders are having cramps and the legs ... well the legs do all the heavy lifting, but fortunately they have been holding up so far. And than there is the mental perspective. This tour can be both mentally and physically draining, especially when your sugar levels drop if you haven't managed to eat enough. Luckily we do not have to overcome these challenges alone and having team mates around to push you through the toughest parts has proven to be invaluable. The 1st week was tough, but fantastic fun. The 2nd week will be a lot harder. Let's hope we can still manage enjoy it as well.
