Soaring heat

Wednesday 07 July 2010

We thought we had seen ‘hot’, but this day took it one step furtner. We left early after a short night as the Adrenaline of the semi-finals kept us awake for a while (We are in the Finals!). It was a good day to ride with the entire group (Meppie up front, everyone else tagging along).

We also learned something new today. The team start is not always at the same spot as the ‘official start’. Today this meant the stage was actually 10 km longer than posted. After all these days of riding every one of those extra kilometers are beginning to add up. After a long lunch it was pretty tough restart the engines and get the bikes moving. The soaring heat, which caused the tarmac to melt at some points didn’t exactly help the speed. Luckily there was a fountain right at the finish of the stage, which we turned into a public swimming pool to cool off after riding in 37 degrees for several hours.
